Cross-subject activities

A programme of cross-challenge activities supported the research challenge leads, and ensured close collaboration and cross-fertilisation of evidence (as well as economies of scale for events and research commissioning across the challenges).

The Expert Advisory Group played an important role in ensuring that the programme was informed by the best scientific, technical and social scientific thinking available; that it was fully connected to the major research programmes of work taking place internationally; and that the programme generated knowledge of sound scientific quality.

Cross-subject papers were commissioned where a common theme or interest was identified across multiple challenges, and cross-subject events were run in order to engage challenges with diverse perspectives.

Beyond Current Horizons also linked up with related projects, such as Harnessing Technology 2, and with key government policy agendas, such as the Children’s Plan and Building Schools for the Future.
